From December 9 to 10, 2025, the 15th International Forum “The Arctic: Present and Future” named after Artur Chilingarov was held in St. Petersburg. This large-scale event, organized by the Association of Polar Explorers and named after its founder, Artur Nikolaevich Chilingarov, serves as a platform for interaction between government, business, science, and the media to address pressing development issues in the Russian Arctic. The forum, which annually attracts over 2,000 people, identifies key vectors of Arctic policy.
The forum included 40 thematic sessions, all dedicated to eight key strategic areas for the development of the Russian Arctic.
Nansen Centre staff members Pavel Golubkin and Julia Smirnova participated in the forum. As part of the session “Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor and the Northern Sea Route: Part 2. Shipping Safety, Efficiency, and Digitalization of Logistics,” Pavel Golubkin presented a report on the Nansen Centre’s developments, “Monitoring Ice Conditions and Natural Hazards in the Northern Sea Route“.
