3rd International Scientific and Business Conference POLAR 2025

May 21 is the Polar Explorer Day in Russia*!

On this day, the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) hosted the 3rd International Scientific and Business Conference POLAR 2025, which was attended by Nansen Center employees.

The discussions covered topics related to the implementation of projects in the Arctic. The speakers paid special attention to ensuring the operation of the Northern Sea Route.

The two sessions were of the greatest interest:

Transarctic transport corridor: current status and conditions for sustainable development;

Development of the Arctic. Climate risks and adaptation


The discussions covered topics related to the implementation of projects in the Arctic. The speakers paid special attention to ensuring the operation of the Northern Sea Route.

The topics of the reports covered a wide range of areas from the construction of an icebreaker fleet, cargo transportation, energy, recruitment, to the development of a program for the environmental monitoring system of the Northern Sea Route.

*In 1937, the world’s first drifting research station “North Pole – 1” was established. On this day, May 21, Soviet pilot Mikhail Vodopyanov landed on ice in the ANT-6 aircraft for the first time in the area of ​​the North Pole, delivering a group of polar explorers to organize the station.
